We are a small family that live in the small town Monroe, Michigan. We picked the name Aibhlinn (Ave-leen) because it's a name I have loved for a while. It is an Irish name that
has Norman roots. It means "longed for" or "wished for". That name fits because as an adult I have always wanted horses. Not just not any horses-Draft horses! As of now we currently have 3 draft horses. All of them mares, it just seemed to happen that way.
The draft horse seemed like the natural thing to go with when looking into horses. They are known to have a calm temperament and are what some would say a bit slow paced. Which is just our pace, too; slow. I recall looking over the internet for the sale ads on them. There was nothing to my liking as I wanted a younger horse to start off with. Some how I found some PMU farms and that was it. I ended up purchasing a foal from a wonderful farm. That December Eponine arrived!
Since then I have purchased a superb cross bred. A Gypsy horse cross. She is so smart, willing and the size is just perfect.
We get the draft horse personality with the smaller size horse. She is perfect in every way. Our plan is to breed a nice 3/4 Gypsy Cob to use as our own personal horse. We would like to raise up a nice driving team.
With their kind natures and small sizes, I don't think we could go wrong. They were bred for pulling and have such lovely dispositions. They also make great children mounts or mounts for adults who don't want to feel like they are 10 feet off the ground, but can still hold their weight.
The links below should be very helpful for people looking into this breed/cross. Or if you have something you may have in mind and can not find it, let us know. We would love to help you find some reputable breeders or discuss draft horses in general and their care.
Thank you for looking and God Bless,
Sean and Kimberly Stevens
